Originally opened during the Great Depression when then owner Tom Alexander, a timber cruiser within the Great Smoky Mountains, was laid off from his job. After the split, he negotiated exchanging his back pay for some land within the area where a fishing camp was in operation. Over the years, that fishing camp evolved into Cataloochee Ranch. Since then, the business has flourished, expanding its operation to include horseback riding, pack trips, and square dancing. Recently celebrating its 75th anniversary, Cataloochee is a solid choice for any family (or group) looking for a well deserved escape.
